The Working Parts of Metal Braces
- The Brackets: The brackets are small metal squares that are bonded to the surfaces of your teeth. They hold your orthodontics together and make tooth movement possible.
- The Archwire: The archwire is the thin metal wire that runs through each bracket. When your dentist adjusts the archwire, pressure is applied to your teeth. This pressure gently moves the teeth into their ideal positions.
- Ligature Elastic: Ligature elastics, or rubber bands, hold the archwires to the brackets. Some patients select fun and colorful elastic options, while others opt for subtler shades.
